Katie Ledecky Wins Gold in 800m Freestyle & Beats Her Own World Record

Katie Ledecky just took home another gold during the 800m freestyle on Friday (August 12) at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Not only is this the 19-year-old Team USA swimmer’s fourth medal of the Olympics but she also beat her own World Record!

Katie clocked in at the record-breaking time of 8:04.79, nearly two seconds faster than the previous record she set earlier this year.

Jazz Carlin
of Britain took the silver medal but came in nearly 12 seconds behind Katie. Boglarka Kapas of Hungary won the bronze.

Katie also became the second female swimmer to ever win three individual freestyle events at one Games. Earlier this week, Katie took the gold in both the 200m and 400m.
